Antenatal Care

You will be cared for by two midwives, who will alternate antenatal appointments, giving you plenty of time to get to know them both before your big day.

We would normally meet up with you every four weeks for the first six months of pregnancy, every two weeks until 38 weeks and then weekly until labour starts. However we will plan your individual schedule of visits according to clinical need. For example, if you engage our services later in pregnancy, we may schedule more frequent appointments so we can get to know each other better.

During our antenatal visits to you, we will discuss how things are going for you. We expect our visits to last up to an hour. A routine antenatal check in the NHS takes 10-15 minutes. It is therefore possible for you to ask any questions, tell us about how your pregnancy is progressing, and talk about what to expect in the coming weeks. We would also normally monitor your physical wellbeing and the baby’s growth and health. You are welcome to invite your birth partner, or anyone else, to your appointments.

Due to the unpredictable nature of our work, it is sometimes necessary to rearrange visits at short notice, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this.
